Data Methodology
Price data
Exchange-traded commodities (gold, silver, copper, WTI crude, etc.) display futures prices from COMEX, NYMEX, ICE, LME, and SGX via delayed or end-of-day data feeds. Real-time redistribution requires a paid exchange license; our current implementation shows 15-minute delayed or end-of-day data unless a paid feed is configured.
OTC commodities (lithium, manganese, rare earths, antimony, tungsten, molybdenum) have no exchange-listed contract. These prices reference Fastmarkets, Argus Media, Asian Metal, and Benchmark Mineral Intelligence assessments, updated weekly.
Spot vs. futures
Most metals pages display the front-month futures price, which closely tracks spot but includes a small cost-of-carry premium. For precious metals, we display the LBMA Gold Price (AM/PM fix) as the global spot benchmark where available. Uranium uses UxC spot and term price indices.
Stock data
Stock prices, market caps, YTD and 1-year returns are sourced from standard equity data feeds via yfinance (Yahoo Finance) and updated after each market close. Revenue percentage from commodity exposure is sourced from company 10-K filings and updated annually.
ETF data
ETF prices, AUM, and expense ratios are sourced from issuer fact sheets (BlackRock, State Street, VanEck, Sprott, Global X, and others) and supplemented by Yahoo Finance. AUM is updated daily after market close; expense ratios are updated quarterly.
News
News is aggregated from real industry outlets: Reuters, Bloomberg, Mining.com, Fastmarkets, Argus, Kitco, S&P Global Commodity Insights, Benchmark Mineral Intelligence, World Nuclear News, and others. CommoditiesTracker does not republish full article bodies; it displays headlines, excerpts, and source attribution, then links to the original article. This is standard news aggregation within fair use norms.
Key market data (KMD) cards
The 6 KMD cards on each commodity hub page display fundamental supply and demand statistics sourced from government agencies (USGS, EIA, IEA) and industry associations (World Gold Council, Silver Institute, WPIC, INSG, ILZSG, ITIA, IMOA, and others). These are updated quarterly to annually, depending on the data source publication schedule.
Editorial accuracy
All editorial content was verified against primary sources as of the May 2026 snapshot. Corporate actions (M&A, ticker changes, demergers) are documented in the per-commodity page handoffs. Stale data is labeled with a "last updated" timestamp. If you find an error, please contact us.
